From hereon out, I will be posting each original page of the book of poetry followed by the translation made by Peter Hays. I will also include all notes Peter Hays made of the cultural aspects or linguistic nuances that might escape an American reader of the twenty-first century. I will also try to format it as closely to the formatting found in the writing itself.
A Model for Well-wishing
To
[My] Girlfriend- [My] Goal
Dress yourself in Life’s
Longboat[1]
Unto blissful years, even if
sixty
Have money without measure
Good beer and cigars
And
I, today, in a circle of friends
May
I weave for her well-wishing [words]
That
she be always as happy
As
delightful and merry
As
today my heartfelt words
Let everyone, everything for
you
Be good, kind, polite
And God always with grace in
Heaven
Let life inspire only
Constantly
towards your good

Lovely sentiments.
